Legion convention career events deliver job offers

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce reports that American Legion career events earlier this week in Reno, Nev., produced job offers for 25 out of 56 veterans who attended.

American Legion Veterans Employment and Education Division Director Joseph Sharpe added that among those, 30 attended a financial literacy workshop provided by USAA, The American Legion’s preferred provider of financial services; 25 participated in a resume-writing workshop led by American Legion National Headquarters Human Resources Director Rodney Rolland; and six took in a session on applying for federal employment.

Thirty-three employers from across the country met and interviewed veterans at Tuesday’s event during the 99th National Convention of The American Legion.

“They were mostly local veterans and some from a Marine base close by,” Sharpe said. “One Marine told me that once they heard about our hiring fair, they were released from duty to attend. A lot of the veterans who attended were here from 9 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon.”
