VA calls student veterans to explain GI Bill

VA representatives will soon phone veterans across the country to discuss Post-9/11 GI Bill education benefits with them, and to help ensure that beneficiaries are able to receive payments.

The telephone outreach is in response to the large number of veterans who applied for new education benefits for the fall semester. VA callers will follow up to ensure that student veterans have received their benefit payments.

To protect veterans’ identities, VA callers will not request personal information, such as birth dates or Social Security numbers, but they may ask family members for ways to contact veterans who are away at school.

“Our procedures and policies to provide advance payments remain in effect,” VA Secretary Eric Shinseki said. “Meanwhile, we’re completing the on-time development of our automated processing system that will ensure timely delivery of checks in the future.”
