Fun fact: national commander collects vintage receivers.

On Feb. 20, American Legion National Commander Brett Reistad visited Gautier-Vancleave Post 1992 in Gautier, Miss. Don Rand of Post 1992's K5TAL ham radio club reported in a net report that Reistad used the opportunity to address Legionnaires:

"National Commander Brett Reistad spoke to the K5TAL net between eating and the ceremonies at Post 1992. Lee Johnston K5CUB placed a telephone call to Don Rand KA5DON, who was conducting the K5TAL net. Reistad made laudatory comments to the service hams provide during events, special events and disaster responses. He shared that his hobby/passion is collecting and restoring 1930s and 1940s receivers, and said that in the future, after his term as national commander, he may look into getting his ham license. He also relayed that so far he has traveled to 24 states, and personally sees the growth of the TALARC group as more vets he meets introduce themselves as TALARC members."
