Announcements: 3

1. The next American Legion Amateur Radio special event station will commemorate the 101st birthday of The American Legion. The special event, using the club call of K9TAL, will be held on March 14 beginning at 1300 ET and ending at 1900 ET. Full info and frequencies are at www.legion.org/hamradio.

2. National commander’s comments: (WV5Q) Commander, this is Don Rand, WV5Q and I’m going to put you on the air: Everyone, this is National Commander Bill Oxford – Go ahead, commander – (CMDR) “This is Bill Oxford, we are at Post 1992, MS, on one of the stops on the national commander’s tour, having a great time. The hospitality, reception, the Locum in Mississippi has been outstanding. Just encourage everybody to keep going, keep plugging those American Legion principles. You know we were founded on four basic pillars, that’s a strong Americanism, supporting America, a strong national defense, just to make sure our active-duty folks are supported, and endorsed to let them know we are their biggest fans, our Children and Youth programs supporting American youth, and developing the future leaders of our country, and then supporting our Veterans Affairs and Rehab programs, just making sure our veterans are receiving proper care and treatment that we were promised. But that’s just a little bit from Post 1992 in Mississippi. (WV5Q) Commander, thank you for taking the time to get on the air with us. We have over 20 people who have checked in, from Michigan, to Danville, Ky., South Carolina, and all over the state of Mississippi. Thank you for taking the time and have a good evening. (CMDR) Thank you sir, good work.”

3. D-Star Net on March 2, reflector 56C 8pm Eastern.

Thursdays at 7 pm CST, K5TAL hosts an all-digital net via a service called Quadnet Array (www.openquad.net). This service allows any form of digital voice to be routed so DMR users can hear D-Star and C4FM Fusion, D-Star can hear everyone, as can C4FM users. It also allows DV Dongle users to communicate likewise. The net is listed on the www.openquad.net website. If you have questions you can email me, wv5q@arrl.net, and I will do what I can to answer them. On the www.openquad.net web page (listed above) the Reflectors and Talkgroups for D-Star, DMR and Yaesu C4FM System Fusion are listed. Once you connect to any one of them, you are connected to all digital voice users. I will be using a free logging program called NetLogger that can be downloaded from netlogger.com. On Thursday before net I will start the program and you should be able to select K5TAL from the net list. You can see the list, and know who is up next. It also has an “Almost Instant Messaging” feature you can type a message to all. Don’t forget: you can listen to the HF 80 meter by going to www.n4dkd.com and enter the frequency and LSB. If you have an Apple device, there is a box to the right to enable audio for IOS.

Location for all net times was discussed and direction to www.legion.org/hamradio was provided.
