The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, one of the nation's leading suicide prevention organizations, is hosting a national presentation ofTalk Saves Lives: Supporting Our Veterans on September 29 at 2:00 p.m. ET. Join virtually to learn how anyone can play a role in preventing veteran suicide.
Talk Saves Lives: Supporting Our Veterans is a free, one-hour presentation, available in-person or virtually, designed to help audiences learn abut the impact of suicide among U.S. veterans, along with practical ways to recognize warning signs for suicide, navigate tough conversations, and connect veterans to support in ways that respect their autonomy.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn the impact of suicide on the veteran population
- Identify contributors to veteran suicide and protective factors
- Learn how to recognize suicide warning signs in veterans
- Know how to start a conversation about suicide with a veteran who may be in distress
- Understand ways to seek and offer support and resources for veterans
Participants will learn about the impact of suicide among U.S. veterans, how to recognize warning signs and protective factors, how to navigate difficult conversations, and ways to offer support and resources while respecting a veteran’s autonomy.
