Shelby breaks 2012 attendance record

Total paid attendance was more than 104,000 for the 15-game 2013 American Legion World Series in Shelby, N.C.

Shelby, N.C., home of The American Legion World Series (ALWS), once again brought the "wow" factor. Total paid attendance for the 15-game 2013 ALWS was 104,726, eclipsing the 2012 record of 101,925.

The championship game, Brooklawn, N.J. vs. Petaluma, Calif., had a paid attendance of more than 6,800, which is the highest attendance since the 1954 ALWS in Yakima, Wash. The championship team in 1954 was San Diego, Calif. Post 492, and runners-up were Gastonia, N.C. Post 23.
