Before being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers from the Mets, Neil Walker, in his ninth season in the major leagues, accepted his induction to the Pennsylvania American Legion Sports Hall of Fame with video message of appreciation and gratitude.
Walker fondly recalled his time playing American Legion Baseball for Post 548 in Gibsonia, Pa.
“The lessons I learned during my time with Post 548 were invaluable, not just as a player but as a young man as well,” Walker said. “Honor, integrity, as well as respect for the game, my teammates and myself are among the most valuable of those things and I’ve tried to carry all of those attributes with me as a major league player and a man.”
The Pennsylvania American Legion Sports Hall of Fame was organized in 1963 to honor those persons, whether members of The American Legion or not, for their outstanding accomplishments to the youth of Pennsylvania.
