ALB Regionals Day 3: No-hitter highlights Friday’s results

The field is down to 32 teams after Friday’s regional action.

The first no-hitter thrown by a Massachusetts pitcher in an American Legion Baseball regional in 61 years kept host Shrewsbury (Mass.) Post 397 alive in the Northeast Regional on Friday.

Brendan Parisi, a right-hander, fired a six-inning no-hitter as Post 397 eliminated Bedford (N.H.) Post 84 in a 13-0 victory in a game shortened by one inning by the 10-run mercy rule.

Parisi yielded two walks and struck out seven in becoming the first documented Massachusetts pitcher — and 15th overall in ALB regional history that dates to 1960 — to throw a no-hitter.

Region 1 (Northeast Region)

Game 9: Shrewsbury (Mass.) Post 397 d. Bedford (N.H.) Post 54, 13-0 (6 innings); Bedford eliminated. Brendan Parisi’s no-hitter was backed by Andrew Schmitt (2 hits, double, home run, 3 RBIs), Connor Rice (2 hits, 1 RBI), Ryan Iagallo (2 hits, 2 RBIs), Brayden Mercier (2 hits, double, triple, 1 RBI), J.J. Ferguson (2 hits) and Jackson Lucarelli (2 hits).

Game 10: Waterford (Conn.) Post 161 d. Cumberland (R.I.) Post 14, 7-5; Cumberland eliminated. Martin Light and Dylan Matis had 2-run singles in Waterford's 7-run bottom of the 6th inning that kept Waterford alive. 

Game 11: Greece (N.Y.) Post 468 d. St. Johnsbury (Vt.) Post 58, 11-1 (5 innings). Starter Derrick Allen (3 1/3 innings) and reliever and winner Quentin Grimes (1 2/3 innings, 2 strikeouts) led Greece, whose offense was led by Tyler Cannon (2 hits, double, home run, 1 RBI), Cam Barbulean (2 hits) and Nate Brinza (2 hits, double, home run, 5 RBIs).

Friday’s results

Game 8: Hazleton (Pa.) Post 76 d. New Castle (Del.) Post 30, 4-3 (10 innings). Ryan Racho's RBI grounder in the top of the 10th inning was the difference in a game that was completed on Friday after being suspended on Thursday night at 8 innings with a 3-all score. Riley Katchur (3 hits) and Racho (2 hits, double, 1 RBI) led Hazelton and Kellen Roberts (3 hits, double) led New Castle.

Game 9: Chesapeake (Va.) Post 280 d. Cecil County (Md.) Post 194, 8-4; Cecil County eliminated. Aiden Parker (5-hitter, 5 strikeouts) and Wyatt McDowell (2 hits, double, 2 RBIs) led Chesapeake.

Game 10: New Castle (Del.) Post 30 d. Bristol (Pa.) Post 382, 4-3; Bristol eliminated. Reliever and winner James Pankowski (4 1/3 innings, 2 strikeouts), Michael Baker (2 hits) and Charles Porter (2 double, 1 RBI) led New Castle.

Game 11: Cherry Hill (N.J.) Post 372 d. Hazleton (Pa.) Post 76, 11-2. Starter and winner Josh Litsky (6 innings, 2 strikeouts) and reliever Andrew Bechtel (1 inning, 1 strikeout) combined on a 6-hitter for Cherry Hill, whose offense was led by Chris Aherns (3 hits, double, 2 RBIs), Jake Barletta (3 hits, 1 RBI), Luis Sanchez III (2 hits), Brett Chiesa (2 hits, double, 2 RBIs) and Noah Harvey (2 doubles, 1 RBI).

Game 8: Troy (Ala.) Post 70 d. Jacksonville (Fla.) Post 316, 11-7. Reliever Jackson Killcreas (3 2/3 innings, 3 strikeouts), Ethan Walls (3 hits, double, 3 RBIs), Porter Dykes (2 hits) and Haze McCorkel (2 hits, double, 4 RBIs) led Troy.

Game 9: Richland (S.C.) Post 215 d. Randolph County (N.C.) Post 45, 13-5; Randolph County eliminated. Alvin Murray (2 hits, double, 1 RBI), Tyler Hernandez (2 hits, double, 3 RBIs) and Jacob Muir (2 hits, 2 RBIs) led Richland.

Game 10: Jacksonville (Fla.) Post 316 d. Florence (S.C.) Post 1, 10-2; Florence eliminated. Andrew McWilliams (3 hits) and Bryson Harnage (2 hits) led Jacksonville.

Game 11: Asheville (N.C.) Post 70 d. Troy (Ala.) Post 70, 4-3. Micah Simpson (4 innings, 7 strikeouts as pitcher, 2 hits including game-winning walkoff RBI single) and Caden Simpson (3-run home run) led Asheville past defending ALWS champion Troy.
