ALB Regionals Day 4: 18 teams reach Championship Sunday

Six of the eight regionals feature unbeaten teams needing just one win to advance to the American Legion World Series.

Six of the eight American Legion Baseball regionals will have unbeaten teams entering Sunday's final day as the teams will complete their "Road to Shelby" for the 2025 American World Series (ALWS).

Asheville, N.C., in Region 3 (Southeast); Columbia, Tenn., in Region 4 (Mid-South); Cedar Rapids Swisher, Iowa, in Region 5 (Great Lakes); Lincoln, Neb., in Region 6 (Central Plains); Idaho Falls, Idaho, in Region 7 (Northwest) and Petaluma, Calif., in Region 8 (Western) all have 4-0 records in their respective regionals and will have to lose twice on Sunday to fail to advance to the 98th ALWS, Aug. 14-19 in Shelby, N.C.

Meanwhile, three teams remain alive in Region 1 (Northeast) and Region 2 (Mid-Atlantic), guaranteeing two games today in each of those regionals.

Here are Saturday’s results and Sunday’s pairings (all times local, schedule subject to change):

Region 1 (Northeast Region)

At Shrewsbury, Mass.

Saturday’s results

Game 12: Shrewsbury (Mass.) Post 397 d. St. Johnsbury (Vt.) Post 58, 3-2; St. Johnsbury eliminated. Connor Rice's walkoff RBI single advanced host Shrewsbury to the final day of the regional. Starter Owen Mongeon (6 2/3 innings, 6 strikeouts), Rice (3 hits, double, 2 RBIs) and Gabe Tarlato (2 hits, double) led Shrewsbury.

Game 13: Waterford (Conn.) Post 161 d. Greece (N.Y.) Post 468, 4-0. Martin Light (2-hitter, 8 strikeouts) and Donte Valentine (3 hits, 1 RBI) led Waterford, which handed Greece its first loss of the regional.

Game 14: Shrewsbury (Mass.) Post 397 vs. Waterford (Conn.) Post 161, 10 a.m.

Game 15: Greece (N.Y.) Post 468 vs. Game 14 winner, 1 p.m.

Region 2 (Mid-Atlantic Region)

At Ridge, Md.

Game 12: Chesapeake (Va.) Post 280 d. Hazleton (Pa.) Post 76, 14-0 (6 innings); Hazleton eliminated. Ben Kablach (4-hitter), Reid Downs (4 hits, 2 doubles), George Chevalier (3 hits, double, 2 RBIs), Wes Stubbe (2 hits, home run, 3 RBIs) and Thomas Conrad (2 hits, 1 RBI) led Chesapeake.

Game 13: New Castle (Del.) Post 30 d. Cherry Hill (N.J.) Post 372, 6-3. Starter and winner Michael Baker (6 1/3 innings, 3 strikeouts) and reliever Aiden Brotman (2/3 innings, 1 strikeout, save) combined on the 6-hitter as New Castle dealt Cherry Hill its first loss of the regional. Shane Wilson (3 hits, triple, 1 RBI) and Samuel Diaz (2 hits) led New Castle’s offense.

Region 3 (Southeast Region)

Reliever and winner Evan Taylor (4 2/3 innings), Tabor Offord (3 hits, double, 4 RBIs), Ethan Walls (3 hits, double, 2 RBIs), Porter Dyches (2 hits, double, 3 RBIs), Jake Franklin (2 hits, double) and Brady Richardson (2 hits, 3 RBIs) led Troy.
