Asheville Post 70 holds on for 7-6 win over Bossier City Post 202.
Asheville (N.C.) Post 70 has made rally after rally to advance to the American Legion World Series for the first time.
In Friday's final game of a four-game opening day of the 2025 ALWS at Veterans Stadium at Keeter Stadium, Asheville's early inning magic lifted Post 70 to a 7-6 win over Bossier City (La.) Post 202.
Asheville had built a 4-0 lead after four innings before Bossier City scored three unearned runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to knot the score at 4.
But in the bottom of the sixth, Caden Davidson’s two-out RBI double gave Post 70 the lead for good. And Davidson later hustled all the way from second base on a wild pitch and Carson Wallace had a two-out infield single for two more insurance runs to keep Asheville streak of recent good fortune going.
Bossier City (24-4) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh before reliever and winner Micah Simpson struck out two batters sandwiched around picking off a runner at first base.
Davidson (3 hits, double, 2 RBIs), Simpson (2 hits, home run, 2 RBIs), Jordyn Brown (2 hits, double, 1 RBI) and Wallace (2 hits, 1 RBI) led Asheville.
Post 70 (34-3) won the North Carolina state tournament title game on July 30 with an 11-run bottom of the sixth inning for a 12-6 victory after trailing 6-1 against Garner after 5 1/2 innings.
Then, in last week's Southeast Regional in Asheboro, N.C., Asheville overcame a 6-5 deficit with a five-run top of the seventh inning to defeat Florence (S.C.) in its opening game then beat defending ALWS champion Troy (Ala.) twice on walk off hits after facing late game deficits. The second walk off win gave Asheville a 7-6, 8-inning victory for the regional title.
Both teams play again on Saturday with Bossier City meeting Greece (N.Y.) at 10 a.m. and Asheville meeting Chesapeake (Va.) at 4 p.m.
