Post 202 returns 10 players from their 2024 American Legion World Series roster.
With 10 returning players from last year’s American Legion World Series team, Bossier City (La.) Post 202 is the most experienced team in this year’s field.
“Having 10 guys back from last year, the expectations were going to be high,” Bossier City assistant coach Jonathan Boucher said. “And we hope we’re leaving as the last team standing.”
Bossier City (24-3) seeks to become Louisiana’s sixth ALWS champion, and first since New Orleans won in 2012 at Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, N.C.
A year ago, Bossier City finished with a 1-2 record in three low-scoring affairs.
“It’s an experience unlike any other as far as amateur baseball goes,” said Boucher, a member of coach Dane Peavy’s coaching staff that won the 2016 ALWS with Texarkana (Ark.). “You’re treated like royalty and a major leaguer.”
Post 202 went 5-1 in last week’s Mid-South Regional by coming out of the loser’s bracket to avenge its lone tournament loss to Columbia, Tenn., by taking two victories over Post 19 on Aug. 10 by 10-1 and 5-3 scores.
“I felt like the pressure wasn’t on us,” Boucher said. “We were playing like, ‘What’s there to lose?’ We just took it one inning as a time. Coach Peavy talked over and over about winning one inning at a time.
“And we did that.”
One of the 10 returnees, Easton Sanders, was named regional MVP after collecting five hits and eight RBIs.
Other regional standouts were newcomers Brock Laird (7 hits, 5 RBIs), Cole Snell (6 hits, 10 RBIs), Dillion Braxton (6 hits, 8 RBIs) and Gavin Brint (pitching win) and returnees Jackson Jones (9 hits, 9 RBIs), Griffin Sibley (7 hits, 5 RBIs), Abel Thetford (5 hits, 6 RBIs), Hudson Brignac (5 hits, 4 RBIs, pitching win), Brody Bower (pitching win) and Tanner Webb (pitching win).
The other returnees are Ty Boozer, Kade Bryant and Britain Pipes.
