Legion alum Raleigh wins Silver Slugger, named All-MLB First Team

The Mariners catcher finished 2nd in American League Most Valuable Player voting.

Cal Raleigh came up short in his bid for American League Most Valuable Player. But the American Legion Baseball alumnus still picked up some awards for his breakout 2025 season.

Raleigh, who played Legion Baseball for Post 47 in Waynesville, N.C., received 13 first-place votes to Aaron Judge’s 17 to finish second in the voting for AL MVP. The MVP awards were announced Nov. 13, with Judge and the National League’s Shohei Ohtani repeating as their respective leagues’ MVPs.

Raleigh hit 60 home runs, the most ever for a catcher, switch-hitter and a Mariner, and led the AL with 125 RBIs as he helped Seattle win the AL West for the first time since 2001.

While he fell short of winning MVP, Raleigh did win his first Silver Slugger Award and was named All-MLB First Team.

Raleigh is also Seattle’s Heart & Hustle Award winner, given annually to players who "exemplify a true passion for the game and who best embody the values, spirit, and tradition of the game." The overall MLB winner will be announced Nov. 20.

Another Legion Baseball alum, pitcher Jacob deGrom (Post 3/Deland, Fla.) was named AL Comeback Player of the Year on Thursday night.

DeGrom returned from Tommy John surgery in September 2024, then went 12-8 with a 2.97 ERA in 2025 for Texas. He earned his fifth All-Star Game bid and finished eighth in voting for the AL Cy Young Award.
