ALB Regionals: Saturday’s results

Twenty teams enter Sunday’s games with a chance to advance to the American Legion World Series.

Regional championship Sunday is upon us.

Twenty American Legion Baseball teams remain in the running for spots in the 99th American Legion World Series. All four of the eight-team regionals still have three teams vying for the title.

Here are Saturday’s results and Sunday’s games (all times local, schedule subject to change).

Region 1 (Northeast)

Fitton Field, Shrewsbury, Mass.

Saturday’s Results

Game 7: Cumberland (R.I.) Post 14 d. Shrewsbury (Mass.) Post 397, 10-2; Shrewsbury eliminated. Vin Pontarelli (6-hitter, 4 strikeouts), Micah Cousineau (2 hits, double), Josh Lyon (2 hits), Jack Diacharo (2 hits) and Carson Mellen (2 hits, double, 3 RBIs) led Cumberland and Drew O'Connell (2 hits) and Cameron Kelly (2 hits, 1 RBI) led Shrewsbury.

Game 8: Essex Junction (Vt.) Post 91 d. Bedford (N.H.) Post 54, 7-6. Jack Lorenzini (1 inning, 1 strikeout as pitcher, 2 hits as batter) led Essex Junction and Noah Durham (2 hits, triple, 1 RBI) and James Gilbert (2 hits, 1 RBI) led Bedford.

Game 9: Bedford (N.H.) Post 54 d. Cumberland (R.I.) Post 14, 6-5 (8 innings); Cumberland eliminated. Demetrios Hunt (2 hits, 3 RBIs including game-winning RBI in the bottom of eighth inning), Ethan Strand (2 hits), Noah Durham (2 hits, 1 RBI) and James Gilbert (2 doubles, 2 RBIs) led Bedford and Micah Cousineau (2 hits), Jake Lonardo (2 hits) and Dylan Slack (2 hits, double) led Cumberland.

Sunday’s Games

Game 10: Essex Junction (Vt.) Post 91 vs. Bedford (N.H.) Post 54, 1 p.m.

Region 2 (Mid-Atlantic)

Game 7: Greater Pittston (Pa.) d. Kingston/Saugerties (N.Y.) Posts 150/72, 4-3; Kingston/Saugerties eliminated. Winner and reliever Nick Innamorati (5 innings, 6 strikeouts) and Ashton Lepore (2 hits, double, 1 RBI) led Greater Pittston and Jackson Barcone (2 hits, 2 RBIs) led Kingston/Saugerties.

Game 8: Whitehouse (N.J.) Post 284 d. Dover (Del.) Post 2, 9-8.8 Jack Markovich (3 hits, double, 3 RBIs including game-winning 2-run single bottom 7th inning), Mike Novotny (2 hits, double, home run, 3 RBIs) and John Portman (2 hits, double) led Whitehouse and Kole Turner (2 hits), Ethan Wisler (2 hits) and Colby Rall (2 hits, home run, 4 RBIs) led Dover.

Game 9: Dover (Del.) Post 2 d. Greater Pittston (Pa.) 9-3; Greater Pittston eliminated. Game 12: Florence (S.C.) Post 1 d. Chesapeake (Va.) Post 280, 5-3; Chesapeake eliminated. Starter and winner Chase Price (5 innings), reliever Bryce King (2 innings, 4 strikeouts, save), Gabe McLaughlin (2 hits, 1 RBI) and James Wyatt Arthur (2 hits) led Florence.

Game 13: Jacksonville (Fla.) Post 316 d. Garner (N.C.) Post 232, 12-2 (6 innings). Starter and winner Lukas Broughman (4 1/3 innings, 4 strikeouts), Chris Reali (4 hits, home run, 4 RBIs) and Gehrig Severidt (2 hits, 4 RBIs) led Jacksonville and Davis Ottaly (3 hits, double) led Garner.

Game 8: Tupelo (Miss) Post 49 d. Baldwin County (Ala.) Post 199, 14-0 (5 innings). Jordan Evers (3-hitter, 5 strikeouts), Jonas Coleman (3 hits, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs), Brody Thompson (2 hits, double, triple, 1 RBI), Brayden Edmiston (2 hits, 1 RBI), Cooper Goff (2 hits, double, 4 RBIs) and William Moody (2 hits, double, 3 RBIs) led Tupelo.

Game 8: Rapid City (S.D.) Post 22 d. Excelsior (Minn.) Post 259, 11-5. Starter Declan Mickley (5 innings, 7 strikeouts), Jaxon Reeder (3 hits, 2 RBIs) and Wyatt Reeder (2 hits, double) led Rapid City and Nolan Carr (2 hits) and Nolan Bartz (2 hits, home run, 4 RBIs) led Excelsior.

Game 13: Portland (Ore.) Post 158 d. Lewiston (Idaho), 7-5. Jaden Tragesser’s bunt and two errors by Lewiston scored Caleb Tiede for the go-ahead run, and Tragesser scored on Ryan Hemsley’s sacrifice fly for the final score in Portland’s win.
