The defending American Legion World Series champion will have to work extra hard to make a title defense. Chesapeake (Va.) Post 280 lost to Florence (S.C.) Post 1, 6-3, in the opening round of the Southeast Regional at Cherryville, N.C., on Wednesday.
Four of the eight American Legion Baseball regionals began play Wednesday. The other four regionals, all six-team locations, begin play Thursday.
