Legion, Auxiliary and Sons leadership create video to share the organization’s mission to reach out to veterans in need and save a life.
American Legion Department of New Hampshire Commander Myron Crossley is passionate about the Legion’s Be the One suicide prevention mission. He is spreading awareness about Be the One departmentwide through training to educate, encourage conversations and “to build an environment where every veteran knows they belong,” he said. Now, he is encompassing the Department of New Hampshire Legion Family for a far greater reach with Be the One.
Crossley, Sons of The American Legion Detachment Commander Scott Hassen and Department Auxiliary President Cathy Perra have created a Be the One video that highlights what the program is, what it means to them and how anyone can help save the life of a veteran in crisis.
“The Be the One mission is for the entire family,” Crossley said. “Every single member of the American Legion Family can participate and can Be the One to make a difference.
The six minute video is on the department’s Facebook page and will be shared on the department’s website and through other social media channels.
“Be the One is a promise that no veteran should ever feel invisible,” Crossley says in the video. “A promise that reaching out is not weakness, it is in fact courage. A promise that every one of us has the power to make a difference by simply asking the question, ‘How are you doing? Are you OK?’ Then staying long enough to truly listen.
“Sometimes, being the one who reaches out, being the one who notices, being the one who listens can in fact save a life.”
