The Feb. 9 online event drew jobseekers from across the globe.

Over 900 jobseekers from across the world participated in a Feb. 9 virtual job fair sponsored by The American Legion.

The event, co-sponsored by the Department of Texas, the Texas Veterans Commission, the Texas Workforce Commission, and The American Legion’s Veterans Employment and Education Commission, brought 265 employers and service providers together with 910 job-seeking veterans and military spouses in the virtual event.

Those seeking jobs came from not only the U.S. but Japan, Bahrain, Italy, Germany, Australia, Guam, South Africa, and Botswana, as well as two active-duty sailors at sea.

“The unemployment rate for veterans is 5.5 percent, up from a year ago when it was at 3.5 percent,” said Dan Seehafer, chairman of the Veterans Employment and Education Commission. “Therefore, the ability to hold global virtual career fairs, allowing The American Legion to connect and assist transitioning servicemembers, veterans, and spouses around the country and abroad to obtain meaningful employment, is imperative.”
