Department Commander Scott Maddrea: ‘Our veterans bring leadership, commitment and dedication to every organization they join.’
The American Legion Department of Virginia hosted a networking reception the night before a Hiring Our Heroes job event at Fort Belvoir. The April 16 hiring fair drew some 250 job seekers, many of whom also attended the networking reception.
Department Commander Scott Maddrea said “it was an honor to speak with so many talented veterans and employers.”
“The energy in the room reflected what we in The American Legion, know to be true — our veterans bring leadership, commitment, and dedication to every organization they join. The American Legion's role at events like this is to help open doors and strengthen the connections between Virginia veterans and employers,” Maddrea said.
Maddrea said events like those presented by Hiring Our Heroes, a part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, are important — especially in a state like Virginia where “veterans are proud of their service, and they still want to keep serving.”
“The American Legion Department of Virginia is proud to stand alongside Hiring Our Heroes in connecting veterans, transitioning servicemembers, and military families with meaningful career opportunities. Events like this are more than job fairs — they are a continuation of our commitment to ensure that those who served our nation have every opportunity to succeed in the next chapter of their lives. The American Legion will continue to lead and partner in efforts that honor service through opportunity,” Maddrea said.
Maddrea also thanked the staff of the Legion’s Veterans Employment & Education division for their support.
“Their work and commitment ensures that our mission is not just spoken, but delivered in real, measurable ways for the veterans we serve,” he said.
