Hundreds attend Legion-supported job fairs across New Mexico

The annual Heroes Hiring Heroes events provided job opportunities, resume assistance and more to job-seeking veterans, military spouses and others.

The Department of New Mexico recently hosted its 11th annual Heroes Hiring Heroes job fairs with the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions, with events weekly across the state in April.

The series of job fairs culminated with Carlisle Bennet Post 13 in Albuquerque hosting its annual event. Past National Vice Commander and Veterans Employment & Education Commission Chairman Paul Espinoza said the April 29 event at Post 13 drew 53 employers, each with at least 15 open positions, and some 300 registered job seekers.

The events also provided resume and interview assistance, as well as Goodwill’s “Dress to Impress” clothing options, Espinoza said.

Other Heroes Hiring Heroes events took place April 1 in Las Cruces, co-sponsored with American Legion Post 10; April 9 in Farmington, co-sponsored with American Legion Post 39; April 15 in Alamogordo, co-sponsored with American Legion Post 34; and April 22 at American Legion Post 28 in Roswell.

Espinoza said the events grow bigger each year, and plans are in the works for virtual job fairs aimed at younger veterans this fall.
