National commander asks for ‘timely’ confirmation hearings for VA leadership nominees

Letter to Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs leadership asks that each nominee be given ‘opportunity to proceed with hearings and deliberations’.

American Legion National Commander James LaCoursiere Jr. has called on members of Congress to quickly move to conduct confirmation hearings for leadership positions within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

In a letter to Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Jerry Moran and Ranking Member Richard Blumenthal, LaCoursiere wrote, “I respectfully urge the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs to give timely consideration to the Administration’s nominees for leadership positions within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The American Legion respects the Senate’s constitutional advice and consent role to thoroughly evaluate each nominee on their merit and does not advocate for the confirmation or rejection of any specific individual. We simply ask that the Committee give each nominee an opportunity to proceed with hearings and deliberations to ensure important leadership roles at VA are filled as quickly as possible.”

LaCoursiere added that a fully staffed VA Central Office “is essential to fulfill the promises made to our nation’s veterans. Prolonged vacancies can hinder the delivery of healthcare, benefits, and other services that veterans and their families rely on.”
