American Legion Post 3 in Alexandria purchased $4,000 in toys through its bingo funds.

The American Legion Family of Post 3 in Alexandria, La., is bringing Christmas joy to children in need this year. On Dec. 12, the post donated $4,000 in toys and clothing to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office to distribute to kids in the community.

“We are happy to do it,” said Post 3 Adjutant Donald Smith. “It’s giving back to the community and children in need. Hopefully there’s some kids who are going to have a good Christmas.”

The toys were purchased from Post 3’s bingo fund, which provides about $10,000 monthly to charities in the community and families in need. Bingo funds also purchase $2,500 worth of backpacks and school supplies yearly that are given to school principals in Rapides Parish to distribute.

Smith said he appreciates the community members who play bingo weekly, as well as the bingo volunteers, because if it wasn’t for them the significant donations that Post 3 makes wouldn’t be possible.
