The American Legion’s recent Consolidated Post Report highlights the service Legionnaires provide to their community.
The American Legion’s Preamble to the Constitution states, “To inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation.” The American Legion has over 11,500 active posts in communities nationwide to uphold the Preamble and support veterans, their families, youth and community members.
Legion posts serve meals to those in need, conduct toy drives for children in hospitals, fundraise for injured servicemembers, collect donations for victims impacted by floods and fires, build memorials to honor servicemembers who paid the ultimate sacrifice, provide burial honors, instill patriotism through flag education, and so much more.
The American Legion’s annual Consolidated Post Report (CPR) helps capture the impact posts have in their community, even though only 7,920 of the 11,592 American Legion posts submitted a 2025-2026 CPR for a 68% completion rate.
Highlights from the recently compiled CPRs include:
- 401,902 volunteer hours at VA medical centers
- 124,506 funeral honors provided by American Legion posts
- 7,917,047 volunteer community-service hours
- 92,253 pints of blood donated
- 57,417 blood donors
- 6,511 Memorial Day ceremonies
- 6,327 Veterans Day ceremonies
- 4,042 Flag Day ceremonies
- 1,463 Four Chaplains Sunday ceremonies
- 1,209 Vets in the Classroom programs
- 1,205 Get out the Vote programs
- 2,198 School Award Medal Program events
- 29,495 School Award Medal Program awards presented
