JB Hunt of Massachusetts and Texas Veterans Commission counselor receive recognition at general session.
National awards for The American Legion Veterans Employment & Education Commission’s Large Employer of the Year and Disabled Veteran Outreach Program (DVOP) Specialist of the Year were presented during the general session Wednesday at the Legion’s 106th National Convention in Tampa, Fla.
Northeast Region Experience Manager Danielle Hance accepted the Large Employer (200-plus employees) on behalf of JB Hunt Transport Services of Massachusetts. Hance noted that JB Hunt Transport was founded by U.S. Army veteran Johnny Brian Hunt.
“JB Hunt is guided by our values of service and dedication to our people. We honor veterans through our hiring practices, apprenticeships and initiatives such as Wreaths Across America, SkillBridge, our Veteran Employees Resource Group and so much more. We are also proud to support our National Guards and reserves with programs such as our military leave concierge services, and our new policy supporting military spouses during Permanent Change of Station orders,” Hance said.
“As veterans, you know the true meaning of service and sacrifice. At JB Hunt, we’re grateful for the chance to stand alongside you in that mission.”
Maria Lindsey, a veterans career advisor with the Texas Veterans Commission, received the DVOP Specialist award.
“I am truly grateful to be standing here among so many dedicated professionals who work tirelessly in support of our nation’s veterans,” Lindsey said. “This award is not just a reflection of my efforts, it is a reflection of the incredible veterans I have the privilege to serve every day. Their resilience, courage and determination inspire me constantly. …
“Throughout my career, I’ve believed that case management is more than just matching someone to a job. It’s about seeing the whole person. Understanding their stories, their goals, and their struggles, and then helping them navigate a path forward with dignity and purpose. Whether it is a veteran who has been out of the work force for years, or someone transitioning straight from the service, my mission is always the same: to listen, support and to help them believe in what’s possible.
“This award fuels my passion even more,” Lindsey said. “I accept it on behalf of every veteran I’ve had the privilege to serve, and on behalf of all DVOPs across the country who are doing this life-changing work every single day.”
