Legion histories come to Tampa

In a first, department-selected one-year post histories will be on display for convention goers.

The National History Showcase will take place on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Rooms 412-413, Fourth Floor of the Tampa Convention Center.

Beginning with this year’s national convention, as approved in Resolution 20, each American Legion department has been invited to submit:
• 1 one-year digital department history, to be judged and showcased in an online exhibit
• 1 one-year hard-copy post history for showcase at the national convention
• 1 one-year digital post history for showcase in an online exhibit

To give the post histories the widest possible audience, the National History Showcase will highlight histories selected by their departments to participate. In addition to the hard-copy books on display,  departments were invited to choose a digital post history for display in an online showcase. These may be winners in their department contest, or histories the department historian feels are deserving of national recognition. Only submissions certified by a department adjutant are eligible for the showcase.

Since many departments host their own contests for post histories, going forward only department histories will be judged at the national level. The results of the Department History Contest will be announced by the national historian during the Aug. 23 showcase and later posted to the contest and showcase website. At that time, the national historian also has the option to highlight any post histories they find remarkable.
