National History Showcase returns with entries from around the country.
The National History Showcase was held on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Galt House Hotel during the 107th American Legion National Convention in Louisville, Ky.
In accordance with Resolution 20, each Legion department was invited to submit:
• 1 one-year digital department history, judged and showcased in an online exhibit
• 1 one-year hard-copy post history, for showcase at the national convention
• 1 one-year digital post history, for showcase in an online exhibit
The Post History Showcase highlights the contributions made by Legionnaires in the past year and preserves their histories through both digital and traditional methods. Additionally, departments were invited to submit a digital departmental history to be judged by the national historian. Only submissions certified by a department adjutant were included in the showcase.
After careful review and examination of all the entries, 2025-2026 National Historian David Lockhart announced the results of the department contest, including special mentions for the digital post history of Daugherty-Hamilton (Wis.) Post 234 by David Schuhart and the physical post history of War Memorial (Maine) Post 30 by Rodney Lynch.
The 2026 National History Contest and Showcase received:
• 9 hard-copy post entries
• 8 digital post histories
• 8 digital department histories
Additionally, 2025-2026 American Legion Auxiliary National Historian Hilary Ott brought five division histories and two pictorial histories that were included in the event showcase.
