Temporary Financial Assistance. In 2015, The American Legion’s Temporary Financial Assistance (TFA) program disbursed $819,971 in grants, benefiting 631 Legion-eligible veteran families and 1,511 children. TFA helps families struggling financially to meet the costs of shelter, food, utilities and health expenses to keep the minor child or children in a stable home environment. www.legion.org/tfa
Legion Baseball. Former Major League Baseball player Mike Piazza is the 68th American Legion Baseball alum to be elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Piazza, who played Legion ball in Phoenixville, Pa., will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., on July 24. The catcher spent the majority of his 16-year baseball career with the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers.
