For the next six months, the community of Manhasset, N.Y., will have an opportunity to learn more about the history of its local American Legion Post 304.
The Manhasset Public Library is featuring an exhibit that commemorates Post 304’s 90th birthday and the centennial of World War I.

On display at the library will be uniforms worn by local veterans, war medals, photos of Post 304’s earlier days, toy soldiers, statements in various languages in case pilots were shot down, and other memorabilia.

Post 304 Commander Peter Killian said the exhibit is a way to “recognize nearly 100 years of The American Legion’s existence, showcase 90 years’ worth of accomplishments by members, and inform the community about who they are and what they have done,” according to the Manhasset Times.

Director of the Manhasset Public Library Maggie Gough hopes the exhibit is a “teaching moment” for the community, while the library’s archivist Antonia Mattheou hopes those who view it feel “respect.”
