By The American Legion
Dispatch

Legacy Run deadline, Blue PAP and more.

You still have time to be a part of the 15th annual American Legion Legacy Run. But hurry – time is running out.
The donation period for the 2020 Legacy Run ends Dec. 31. Donations go toward The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund which provides children of U.S. military personnel who died or received a VA service-connected disability rating of 50 percent or greater while on active duty since 9/11. The annual motorcycle ride has raised more than $11 million since 2006 for the Legacy Fund.

The 15th annual Legacy Run donation tiers are as follows:
Tier 1 - $15: Donors receive a thank-you card signed by the national commander and American Legion Riders chairman.
Tier 2 - $25: Donors receive a 15th Annual challenge coin.
Tier 3 - $50: Donors receive a 15th Annual Ride t-shirt.
Tier 4 - $75: Donors receive a Legacy Run 15 years in review booklet, the ride’s main patch and a “Quarantined 2020 Riding in Spirit” rocker.
Tier 5 - $250: Donors receive all the above items.

Has your post applied for an American Legion Mission Blue PAP (Post Assistance Program) grant? The grants are available for posts whose community outreach efforts were limited, resulting in a loss of revenue. Since the adoption of the Mission Blue PAP Resolution No. 36 during the October Fall Meetings, $29,000 in grants have been approved. PMission Blue Post Assistance Program will provide $1,000 grants to posts that are in good standing with their respective department. These funds must be used exclusively to pay current or past due rent, mortgage, utilities and insurance.

To qualify for a grant, the post must have:
1. A Consolidated Post Report on file.
2. Filed an IRS 990 within the prescribed due date.
3. Filed all other required forms and reports as prescribed by the department.
4. Actively participated in one or more American Legion programs in the last 18 months.
5. A financial need.
6. A certificate of insurance naming The American Legion doing business as American Legion National Headquarters as an additional insured.
7. Documentation indicating that the post is properly incorporated.

To apply for a Mission Blue PAP grant, access the application at www.legion.org/coronavirus.

Don’t miss the second 100 Miles for Hope challenge, tentatively planned to begin on American Legion Birthday in March. More than 4,800 American Legion Family members and others joined the inaugural 100 Miles for Hope challenge, raising about $150,000 for the Veterans & Children Foundation. The V&CF supports the more than 3,000 American Legion accredited service officers who represent veterans, free of charge, with their benefits claims and other needs. As well as provide Legion members and military families facing financial hardship with a Temporary Financial Assistance grant.
