American Legion Post 338 in Southwick, Mass., had a membership booth at last month’s annual Springfield Sportsman’s Show in West Springfield, Mass., which is the largest pure hunting and fishing show in the Northeast. Post 338 member Bob Draper had a booth at the show and shared it with the post to recruit new members, speak to current members, and share what The American Legion does.

“The membership table brought veterans from all across New England, many stopping by to let us know that they were a member and what Legion post they belonged to,” said Sally Nay, senior vice commander for the Department of Massachusetts. The membership table also attracted veterans who wanted to join The American Legion. And “information for those who just said they didn’t know how to join or were never asked was taken and distributed to posts in Massachusetts and to other states (Vermont, Connecticut and Rhode Island).

“Feedback from posts that have already contacted potential members said they were excited.”

Nay shared that Post 338 also has a membership table during the national Motocross race in Southwick in July since the track is located across from the post.

“The post has already exceeded the 103% membership goal and still promoting The American Legion,” she said.
