The trophy is awarded based on a department’s CPR and narrative supporting its Americanism programs.
The American Legion awards its Daniel J. O’Connor Americanism Trophy in honor of Daniel J. O'Connor, National Americanism Commission chairman from 1962-1983 and chairman emeritus from 1984-2004. The award is presented annually to the department that attains the greatest number of percentage points derived from the activities reported on the Consolidated Post Report form and that submits a narrative of not more than 500 words supporting its Americanism programs.
The narrative is due to National Headquarters no later than July 15, 2024. Information can be found in the Trophies, Awards and Ceremonies manual.
