Wellcare shares digital tools to help veterans stay connected

A few simple tools can make a big difference in staying informed, staying healthy, and staying close to the people who matter most.

Technology is transforming how veterans connect — not just with their health care, but with each other. From virtual doctor visits to online veteran communities, digital tools are opening new doors for support, convenience, and connection.

You don’t have to be a tech expert to take advantage of these resources. A few simple tools can make a big difference in staying informed, staying healthy, and staying close to the people who matter most.

1. Telehealth: Care Without the Commute

Getting to appointments isn’t always easy — especially for veterans who live far from a VA facility or have mobility challenges. That’s where telehealth comes in. With a smartphone, tablet or computer, you can meet with a health provider from the comfort of home.

The VA’s My HealtheVet portal and VA Video Connect make it easy to schedule visits, refill prescriptions, and securely message your care team. Many veterans say telehealth gives them peace of mind and saves time without sacrificing quality of care.

“I didn’t think I’d like virtual visits, but now I use them all the time,” one veteran shared. “It’s simple and I get the same personal care I would in person.”

2. Apps That Support Health and Wellness

There are many free or low-cost apps designed specifically for veterans’ well-being. A few favorites include:

PTSD Coach – Offers breathing exercises, coping tools, and stress management techniques.

Mindfulness Coach – Guides users through relaxation and grounding exercises.

Annie App for Veterans – Sends text reminders for medications, appointments, and wellness check-ins. These tools can help veterans manage day-to-day health needs and support a more balanced lifestyle.

3. Staying Social: Building Community Online

Connection is a vital part of wellness. Social media groups, online Legion communities, and veteran forums help bridge the gap between members who can’t always attend in-person meetings.

Whether it’s checking in on fellow veterans, sharing event updates, or organizing community service projects, digital spaces give members the chance to continue their mission of service — virtually.

Tip: Your local American Legion post may already have a Facebook page or online group. Joining can help you stay informed about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and wellness programs.

4. Learning Made Easy

Many organizations offer free workshops or online guides to help veterans learn how to use digital tools safely. The VA’s Digital Divide Consult and local libraries often provide one-on-one help for setting up devices, learning new apps, and protecting personal information online.

A little guidance goes a long way toward feeling confident and connected.

5. The Power of Connection

Technology can’t replace the bond between veterans, but it can make that bond stronger. Whether you’re scheduling care, attending a virtual Legion meeting, or simply checking in on a friend, digital tools help ensure no veteran is left behind.

Because staying connected isn’t just about technology — it’s about community.

Wellcare Salutes the U.S. Space Force on Its Birthday

On Dec. 20, we join the nation in celebrating the birthday of the U.S. Space Force, our newest branch of the armed forces.

Established in 2019, the Space Force plays a vital role in protecting our nation’s security beyond Earth, ensuring America’s safety in the space domain. While young compared to other branches, its mission is critical, and its Guardians carry forward the proud legacy of service, innovation and defense that unites all who wear the uniform.

As Legionnaires and veterans, you understand the importance of every branch of service working together to protect our freedoms. Wellcare is proud to honor the Space Force alongside the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard, because every branch, past and present, strengthens our nation.

Please join us in wishing the U.S. Space Force a very Happy Birthday. To the Guardians: thank you for your service!
