Registration is open for The American Legion training sessions that will take place Jan. 31 in Indianapolis and Feb. 7 in Atlanta.
The American Legion held a National Regional Information Conference (NRIC) in Denver and Boston where post, district and department attendees received training on the organization’s mission, operations and programs. Registration is now open for two more training sessions to be held:
- Jan. 31, 2026, at the Marriott East, 7202 East 21st St, Indianapolis.
- Feb. 7, 2026, at Westin Atlanta Airport, 4736 Best Rd, Atlanta.
Cost for each is $70 (increases to $80 after Jan. 17 for Indianapolis and after Jan. 24 for Atlanta). The fee includes a breakfast and lunch.
The conference is designed for new and longtime American Legion and Sons of The American Legion members to strengthen understanding and implementation of American Legion programs and services, and to make Legion Family connections. You do not have to hold an officer position to attend. All are welcome.
John Ryan of Post 2 in Bristol, Conn., attended the training in Boston last February. He said, “I found that by attending, interacting, listening and asking questions, I significantly increased my understanding of how to successfully contribute to the organization and community. I feel more confident, and I believe that will translate into a plus for the post. I strongly believe it is important for members of all experience levels to attend. Those with minimal knowledge will learn, and those with more knowledge will learn and contribute to those of us who hear your stories and advice.”
Instruction for the one-day conference includes:
- Be the One suicide prevention mission
- Legal
- American Legion programs
- Running an effective meeting
- Post operations
- Membership retention
Training is a priority of the 21st Century Report, which focuses on three areas – Legacy and Vision; Membership and Member Engagement; and Training – for implementation at all levels of the organization to ensure The American Legion continues to serve community, state and nation.
