Download the 2026 legislative agenda and send messages to members in Congress.

The American Legion’s legislative agenda for the second session of the 119th Congress is now available. Download the brochure.

American Legion National Commander Dan K. Wiley will testify before a joint hearing of the House and Senate Committees on Veterans' Affairs regarding the Legion’s legislative agenda on March 4 during the Washington Conference. Visit legion.org in the following weeks for information on how to watch the live hearing.

Among the priorities outlined in the brochure, The American Legion urges Congress to:

Prevent veteran suicide by expanding community-based outreach and prevention, and funding evidence-based mental health treatment.

Improve care for women veterans by investing in gender-specific care at the DoD and VA, and increasing research on reproductive health.

Improve Compensation & Pension Exam processes by improving examiner qualifications and training, and strengthening quality control and oversight of f Disability Benefits Questionnaires.

Pass H.R. 1423 – Guard and Reserve GI Bill Parity Act of 2025 for equal access to earned education benefits.

End veteran homelessness by increasing project-based HUD/VASH vouchers; permanently authorizing Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program; and fully funding the Grant Per-Diem program as authorized.

Strengthen defense and honor service by passing FY27 NDAA amendments addressing housing, dining facilities, childcare, spouse employment, and education benefits; and correcting an inequity for combat-injured, medically retired veterans by authorizing full concurrent receipt of DoD retirement pay and VA disability compensation.

Promote veteran entrepreneurship by creating opportunities to provide veterans with access to capital, and prioritizing veteran-owned small businesses in federal contracting.
