Use the tool to highlight how your post supports its members, community and the four pillars.
American Legion Post 300 in Columbia, Md., has a one-page flyer that we use to engage new prospects, remind members to renew, and place in new membership card mailings. View the flyer here.
What we put on the flyer:
· Post officers, website, and monthly post meeting time and location.
· Instructions on how to join or renew online or at the post.
· Contact information of a post officer who can help.
· Photos of how the post supports its members and community
· The four pillars and how the post supports each one.
Every potential new member has questions before joining a post, so answering many in your flyer increases the odds they will join. Although we do not have a brick-and-mortar post, we are very successful in adding new members to help us perform the service mission of The American Legion every day.
Use our flyer as a template to showcase your posts strengths and service opportunities. The American Legion Media & Communications Division also created a Post Impact Report that posts can download and use to input post activities and successes. Visit here for the impact report, instructions on how to use it, and available icons to feature.
Veterans want to serve again to make a difference in the lives of fellow veterans. Show them how by joining your post.
Next month in the Dispatch, I will explain how to do effective outreach.
