Post 846 in Canisteo hosted a daylong event to raise money for those impacted by Tropical Storm Debby.
An event hosted by American Legion Post 846 in Canisteo, N.Y., helped raised more than $20,000 for flood victims in the area.
Tropical Storm Debby caused flash flooding across several counties in New York in early August. On Sept. 22, Post 846 hosted a flood relief benefit which raised $23,660, according to post financial officer Joel Ordway.
“We donated some to the United Way of the Southern Tier to let them distribute the funds based on flood relief applications they may have received,” Ordway said.
The daylong event included five bands playing on the post’s outdoor stage and three other musicians performing inside the post.
“Bake sale, basket raffles, 50/50’s and such raised the funds in addition to monetary donations pouring in from around the country,” Ordway said.
