Nominations for NEF Excellence Award due by May 1

Departments asked to submit nominations for posts which went above and beyond during natural disasters.

American Legion departments are encouraged to nominate posts for the National Emergency Fund Excellence Award by May 1.

Established in 2009 as the National Emergency Fund Post Excellence Award, with a name change in 2019, the National Emergency Fund Excellence Award recognizes Legion posts which handled logistics, became an emergency action center, provided shelter, and extended support to their communities in times of natural disasters.

Departments may submit to the National Internal Affairs Division posts that should be considered for this recognition of service award by the national commander. Departments must submit a written narrative (no more than 500 words), along with documentation which may include newspaper clippings, links to photos or videos, to: The American Legion, P.O. Box 1055, Indianapolis, IN  46206, ATTN: Internal Affairs. Please have your input to Internal Affairs no later than May 1, 2026.

At the 2026 Spring Meeting of the National Executive Committee, the Internal Affairs Commission will review these submissions and validate the recipients to the National Executive Committee. Award recipients will be mentioned on stage at the national convention in Louisville.

Questions can be directed to Michele Steinmetz, NEF Coordinator, Membership & Internal Affairs Division at (317) 630-1379 or msteinmetz@legion.org, or to Matt Herndon, Director, Internal Affairs.
