Zumba classes, boxing team attract members, nonmembers alike.

As reported on Legiontown, the community service activities of Allen “Pop” Reeves Post 123 in Angeles City, Philippines, include a space for Zumba and a community boxing team.

The outdoor foyer of the post is open two mornings a week for a free 90-minute community Zumba class, made up of wives and community members. Fees are covered by the post. The classes hadn’t operated since the pandemic but were resurrected last year by outgoing Post Commander Tim Crawford; he says the new commander plans to maintain them.

And under Crawford’s leadership, the post took up sponsorship of a boxing team in conjunction with a local gym, negotiating free instruction and a reduced rate for the athletes to use the facilities. The boxers range in ages from 13-24, but most are 16-18. The post provides equipment such as gloves, headgear and hand wraps, and pays entry fees, transports them to events, and sometimes provides overnight accommodations and meals. It also facilitates events at gyms by funding the operations and ancillary personnel.
