TALARC hams were out in force for the American Radio Relay League’s 2012 Field Day, June 23 and 24. Whether participating in a county exercise, at a local club or at an American Legion post, veteran ham radio operators were among the nearly 40,000 across the country who tested their mettle off the grid for 24 hours, using generators, batteries or solar cells to power their radios. Using SSB, a variety of digital modes including PSK31, CW and even Low Earth Orbit (LEO) amateur satellites, hams once again proved their ability to get the message through “when all else fails.”
