In just three years, The American Legion Amateur Radio Club (TALARC) has become one of the nation’s largest active groups of federally licensed radio operators, passing the 1,700 member mark this week.

“Growth has been phenomenal,” said Marty Justis, president of TALARC. “With a focus toward disaster preparedness and emergency communications, many of our members have already been involved with their local Amateur Radio Emergency Service [ARES] and Emergency Management offices. When word got out about the Legion club, many joined as a perfect match with their interests: camaraderie as veterans and Legionnaires, along with a specific dedication to community service.”

Established by Resolution 11 passed by the National Executive Committee during the May meetings in 2011, TALARC is open to all federally licensed radio operators who are members of The American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary or the Sons of The American Legion. The resolution encourages posts to promote member participation in amateur radio licensing and emergency communications.
