Legion Birthday to be celebrated worldwide on shortwave radio

Members of The American Legion Amateur Radio Club (TALARC) will operate a special event station to commemorate the 95th birthday of The American Legion. Operating from the radio room at National Headquarters in Indianapolis, ham radio operators at club station K9TAL will celebrate The American Legion’s 95 years of service to America’s veterans with both members and nonmember amateur radio operators around the world on Saturday, March 15.

Members of The American Legion Amateur Radio Club (TALARC) will operate a special event station to commemorate the 95th birthday of The American Legion.

Operating from the radio room at National Headquarters in Indianapolis, ham radio operators at club station K9TAL will celebrate The American Legion’s 95 years of service to America’s veterans with both members and nonmember amateur radio operators around the world on Saturday, March 15.

They will operate single-side- band (SSB) on the 20 meter band at 14.275 MHz +/- 5 KHz. Ham operators around the world with radio repeaters that use Internet Radio Linking Protocol (IRLP) may contact K9TAL on Channel 5 of the Crossroads Reflector by dialing up node 9205. Central Indiana ham operators may contact K9TAL on 146.46 MHz Simplex. All operations will be conducted on March 15 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, or 1300 to 2000 Universal Coordinated Time.

American Legion posts with TALARC stations are invited to check in from around the country.
A full-color certificate and QSL card will be sent to all amateur radio operators contacting K9TAL, and to shortwave listeners providing signal reports, upon receipt of a 9-by-12-inch self-addressed stamped envelope to:
