The National Headquarters staff files weekly reports on the varied and many programs each staffer oversees. All reports are compiled into one document and sent to National Commander Charles E. Schmidt and leadership in the 55 departments of The American Legion. The report below was submitted by Bill Sloan, Internal Affairs Division assistant director, and TALARC vice president, NZ9S, last month. "Bravo-Zulu" to all those mentioned in Bill's report.
"On Friday, November 11, Veterans Day, K9TAL operators at national headquarters “worked” some 200 stations across North America. American Legion Post amateur radio stations K3TAL (North Carolina), K6TAL (California), WA3DVO and N3TAL (Maryland), KI0CW (SD), Post 1034 (Wallkill, NY) and Post 158 (Lisbon, Maine) and others also participated.
"Our next Special Event operation is The American Legion Birthday, March 2017. K9TAL and post amateur radio stations and volunteer operators continue to maintain a series of practice and social nets on different operating frequencies each month. Club information and net schedules are available at www.legion.org/hamradio.
"Membership in the Legion Radio Club now stands at 2,935 amateur radio Legion Family members after purging the database of all duplicate and reported deceased members. Notably, only 18 members have failed to renew for 2017—a better than 99 percent renewal rate."
