Item: American Legion Baseball Regional and World Series Tournament play
From August 8-12, the regional tournaments of American Legion Baseball will take place. Eight teams in each of eight regions around the country will vie for the opportunity to later represent their region at this year’s American Legion Baseball World Series.
The 92nd Annual American Legion World Series follows closely on the heels of the regional tournaments and gets underway on Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium, Shelby, N.C., at 10 am Eastern time, Thursday, August 16. The final game – for the title of 2018 American Legion Baseball National Champion – will take place on Tuesday, August 21, at 7:00 pm Eastern time.
All games of the World Series will be streamed live on ESPN. For information on which states compete in each of the eight regions, game schedules and start times, and team standings through both the regional and World Series competition, go to www.legion.org/baseball.

Item: American Legion Legacy Run
Each year, since 2006, the American Legion Legacy Run – a long-distance motorcycle trek – has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship moneys for the children of disabled and deceased military personnel. Efforts to date, underpinned primarily by American Legion Rider chapters nationwide, have generated more than $8 million to support the scholarship program.
This year’s Legacy Run begins their journey on Sunday, August 19, in the Department of Kansas and ends at Post 102 near Minneapolis, the site of this year’s national convention, on Thursday, August 23.
The route will take the Riders through the departments of Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota – 5 departments in 5 days.
In addition to daily stops at a number of historic points of interest and veteran-related memorials, the motorcycle enthusiasts who typically number well into the hundreds will be hosted for lunch or dinner at American Legion posts that, with one exception, are 1919-1920 Chartered Posts, in honor of our Centennial year.
For more information on the 2018 American Legion Legacy Run, visit www.legion.org/rider.

Item: The 100th American Legion National Convention
From Friday, August 24 through Thursday, August 30, 2018, The American Legion will conduct its 100th National Convention in the city that hosted its very first national convention in 1919: Minneapolis, Minn.
Legionnaires from the Legion’s 55 departments – the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, France, Mexico and the Philippines – will represent their respective departments at the convention. They will serve as voting delegates to the convention, or as representatives of their department at pre-convention meetings of national committees and commissions.
The National Convention of The American Legion consists of other events that include the American Legion Auxiliary’s National Convention, the Sons of The American Legion National Convention, and the American Legion Riders Legacy Run.
Several major events of the convention will be streamed live, free of charge, on Legion media. Those events include pre-convention contests and observances, and some workshops. The General Sessions of the Convention, where the business of the Legion is conducted, will be streamed live beginning at 10:00 am Eastern each day, Tuesday, August 28 through Thursday, August 30.
Visit www.legion.org for opportunities to watch. And also keep up to date on the latest happenings from Minneapolis on the American Legion National Headquarters Facebook page at www.facebook.com/americanlegionhq, from the Legacy Run before the convention to live footage during it.
