Item: Legion Radio Club newsletter for April
In this month’s edition of the TALARC Newsletter, Vice President Bill, NZ9S, has an after-action report on the March 9 Legion Birthday Special Event. If you QSO’d with any of the SE stations on any frequency or by any mode, National Headquarters has a commemorative certificate for you. To get yours, send a self-addressed 9x12, stamped envelope to The American Legion Amateur Radio Club, c/o The American Legion, 700 N. Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis, IN 46204. Please include your approximate contact time, frequency and mode – HF, IRLP or EchoLink.
If you’re not receiving the newsletter regularly, or if you know a Legion radio club member who isn’t receiving it, go to “TALARC Contacts” on the club website at www.legion.org/hamradio. Provide the requested information and, in the message box, ask to be placed on the Club newsletter mailing list.
Item: Reminder on the New EchoLink Net
In March, Idaho American Legion Post 155 radio club N7ALR began nationwide net operations on EchoLink Conference node *TALARC* and will continue to do so on the second Wednesday of each month at 0400Z. NCS operator Shannon, W6SPY, invites all TALARC members to make use of the node at any time, whether casually as individuals or as a regularly scheduled net for TALARC clubs. For more information contact Shannon via his email address that is on his QRZ.com webpage, W6SPY.

Item: Hamvention 2019
On May 17, 18 and 19, the American Legion Amateur Radio Club will again operate a booth during this year’s Hamvention at Xenia, Ohio. If you plan to attend, be sure to stop and say “hello” at the TALARC booth. It is Booth Number 6702, which is located in Building 6, just inside the main gate. If you can give an hour or two of your time while at Hamvention, the Legion headquarters staff could use your help with booth operations. Contact Josh, KD9DHX, in advance via K9TAL@legion.org to schedule your participation, or stop by the booth on arrival at Xenia and let Josh know your availability.

Item: “Fishing for Freedom Special Event”
On Saturday, April 27, Powder Springs, Georgia, American Legion Post 294 will host a Special Event Station as part of the nationwide program that brings together wounded warriors with volunteer boaters for a day of tournament bass fishing.
According to information on ARRL.org, they will be operating the “Fishing for Freedom” event with the call sign W4F, on 40 meters at 7.275 MHz, from 1100Z to 2200Z. A certificate is available to those who QSO with the station and information for securing one is on the ARRL.org website, under Special Events.

Item: Battleship USS Alabama radio event
On April 13 and 14, the battleship Alabama, moored at Battleship Memorial Park at Mobile, Alabama, will be on the air with the call sign AL2C. The event starts at 0800 CDT on the 13th and will operate until 1300 CDT on the 14th. The ship is activated every 60 days, and this special call commemorates the 200th birthday of the State of Alabama. Frequencies are not published in advance, but will be determined according to conditions at the time. Don KA5DON, at K5TAL in Mississippi, noted that they will definitely be working 15, 20 and 40 meters.
