Items: From American Legion National Commander Bill Oxford:
April 2: The COVID-19 crisis is taking its toll on America’s blood supply. While many Americans are wisely staying in their homes, blood donation is considered an essential service. It is perfectly appropriate to leave your home to make a donation. We are aware of many American Legion posts that have held or are planning blood drives. But regardless of where the donation is made, if you are healthy, please do so. Donation locations in your area can be found by visiting the Red Cross internet site atwww.redcrossblood.org, click on Donate Blood, then click on Find a Blood Drive and place your ZIP code in the box at the top of the page.
April 1: Shutdowns should not be interpreted as closed for business. Your national staff of The American Legion is working remotely from the safety of their homes. The same could be said for our dedicated American Legion service officers. While an office visit is not a safe option for the time being, if you would like to file a claim or have questions about your benefits, visit www.legion.org/serviceofficers. While there may be some delays, many service officers are still responding to emails and calls.

Item: From American Legion National Adjutant Daniel Wheeler
Due to the uncertainty of when our nation will overcome the COVID-19 virus, and because we want to ensure that a minimum number of people are infected, we have taken the following steps to limit exposure of Legionnaires, program participants, and National Headquarters staff:
• The National Oratorical Finals scheduled to be in Indianapolis near the end of April have been cancelled.
• The Spring Meetings of the National Executive Committee, scheduled for May 6 - 7 have been canceled.
• The Junior Shooting Sports competition scheduled for July 21 - 26 has been cancelled.
• American Legion Boys Nation scheduled for July 17 - 25 has been cancelled.
• The 2020 American Legion Baseball Regional Tournaments and the 2020 American Legion Baseball World Series have been cancelled.
• The 2020 National Convention, scheduled for Louisville, Kentucky, August 28-September 3, 2020 has been cancelled. This action includes the cancellation of all meetings associated with a national convention. All national officers, chairmen and members of committees/commissions will continue in their current positions until the Phoenix, Arizona, National Convention scheduled for August 27-September 2, 2021.
American Legion departments [state level offices] have been advised to consider similar measures. Right now, it is too soon to predict the effect the virus will have on the American Legion World Series or the national convention, but those decisions will be made within the next couple of months.
In the meantime, National Headquarters continues to function – some employees are in the offices, many others are working remotely from home. You should still be able to reach the vast majority of us via email or phone or by way of the website at www.legion.org. Click on “Contact Us” for phone numbers and email addresses for the respective divisions.

Item: The latest on 2020 Field Day operations [from the ARRL website]:
“With 2020 ARRL Field Day – one of the biggest events on the amateur radio calendar – just about 12 weeks away, ARRL officials are monitoring this situation with the coronavirus very closely and paying close attention to all of the information and guidance being offered by the CDC's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“At its core, Field Day is a local event and an opportunity for local amateur radio clubs to showcase the skills, science and technologies that make radio communication such a wonderful hobby and a valuable public service. Since the impact of the coronavirus outbreak has been very different in different parts of the country, we recommend that all amateur radio clubs participating in Field Day be in regular contact with their local or state public health officials for their advice and guidance on hosting Field Day activities. This also offers an opportunity for amateur radio clubs to bolster or re-establish their relationships with local and state public health and emergency management officials.”
