Item: Legion Birthday Special Event – March 14
This month’s American Legion Amateur Radio Club Special Event Station operation will commemorate the 101st anniversary of the founding of The American Legion on March 15-17, 1919. While the three-day period is typical for the full observance, K9TAL operations will be limited to one day, Saturday, March 14, 2020, from 1300 to 1900 EDT [1700Z-2300Z]. NOTE: Daylight Saving Time goes into effect on Sunday, March 8.
Call sign for the special event will be K9TAL, with operations on 20m, 40m, IRLP and EchoLink. Full information on the special event – to include instructions for receiving a certificate and a QSL card for those who QSO with K9TAL – is on the K9TAL page of the QRZ.com website.
Because the special event is on the second Saturday of March, the regular 20m and EchoLink nets will not operate on that day.
Item: TALARC Western EchoLink net
Thirteen months ago a second EchoLink net was added to Legion net operations. Originating in the western part of the U.S., the *TALARC* EchoLink Conference is conducted on a time schedule to accommodate participation from our members west of the Mississippi.
Over and above its monthly net operations, the *TALARC* EchoLink Conference node operates continuously, courtesy of Net Control station operator Shannon, W6SPY, and the Idaho Post 155 Amateur Radio Club, call sign N7ALR, which sponsors the node.
This conference node is available for use by Legion radio club members for casual QSOs, or it can be made available to American Legion amateur radio clubs anywhere in the nation that may wish to begin scheduled EchoLink net operations on the Post 155 node.
Clubs that are interested should contact Shannon for coordination and details through k9tal@legion.org; or visit the *TALARC* EchoLink Conference node during their regularly scheduled nets each 2nd Wednesday of the month at 9 pm Pacific time.
In this digital age there are numerous modes of communication available to us. EchoLink offers one that is easy to use, requires no special equipment, is free and can be used by any ham, Novice to Extra. All it requires is a valid FCC license, your call sign and a smartphone. And it runs equally well on tablets and PCs. Information about EchoLink is at www.echolink.org.
