New Jersey stand down helps 100-plus veterans with benefits, other assistance

The event Oct. 28 in Vineland included participation from the Department of New Jersey, VA and others.

Over 100 veterans received assistance with VA benefits, claims and more at a mobile stand down in Vineland, N.J., on Oct. 28.

The Department of New Jersey participated in the event along with the Wilmington VA Medical Center, Catholic Charities, Elks Veterans Service, and the state’s Department of Veterans Affairs, parole board and casino control commission.

Past department commander Bob Looby said the 106 veterans helped by the stand down were the most for the mobile event. In addition to assistance with VA claims and benefits, the event included flu and COVID vaccinations and support services for suicide prevention and the VA Homeless Program.

“This event was in the Walmart parking lot, the largest financial provider since our inception of the Atlantic City Stand Down, 11 years ago. It worked then, and it works now,” Looby said.
