New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Jan. 16 in recognition of American Legion Past National Commander Richard M. Pedro and his lifelong dedication to serving Veterans. Pedro passed away in Owego on January 10, 2014 at the age of 87; his funeral is Jan. 16.

“This month we lost one of our strongest advocates in the veteran community with the death of Dick Pedro,” Cuomo  said. “Few people have served more selflessly than he has over many years on identifying and solving the difficult challenges facing veterans of all generations. I join with all veterans as we pay tribute to Dick’s service. On behalf of all New Yorkers, I offer my thoughts and prayers to his friends and family.”
