Local "America's Parade" is the nation's largest, and visitors are encouraged to march with it.
Every year New York City hosts the nation’s largest Veterans Day parade, and local American Legion posts want as many Legion family members as possible to participate.
The 2015 "America’s Parade" will start at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Nov. 11 at Fifth Avenue and 26th Street, and will proceed up Fifth Avenue to 52nd Street. The total distance is about 1.3 miles.
The parade traditionally airs live on TV in the NYC metro area. This year local CW affiliate PIX11 will do the honors and will also stream the coverage on its website, PIX11.com. The station will provide full coverage from noon to 3 p.m. on-site from Fifth Avenue. In cooperation with parade organizers the United War Veterans Council, PIX11 will also air several segments and vignettes highlighting special servicemembers and military stories.
Robert Morgenthau, a World War II Navy veteran and elected Manhattan district attorney for many years, has been named grand marshal for this year's parade. This selection marks both the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and the featuring of the Navy (a different service branch is especially recognized every year).
