With ongoing restrictions in place around the country, national military and veterans museums are getting creative – and high-tech – with their Memorial Day plans for 2020.
On Monday, May 25, the National WWI Museum and Memorial in Kansas City will present a schedule of free online streams (all times Central):
A Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m., “featuring remarks from dignitaries such as Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, musical performances from Kansas City native and Nashville recording artist Casi Joy (NBC’s ‘The Voice’) and much more.”
A bell-tolling ceremony at noon; “The bell used for this ceremony was originally located at a federal building in downtown Kansas City and was rung daily by the Daughters of the American Revolution during U.S. involvement in WWI (1917-1918). It was also tolled 11 times at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, 1926, during the dedication ceremony of the Liberty Memorial and again on Nov. 11, 2018, to commemorate the centennial of the WWI armistice.”
And at 2 p.m., a dedication ceremony for nearly 100 new granite bricks on the Walk of Honor, which has sections for World War I veterans, veterans of any service, and civilian organizations, friends and family.
The National Veterans Memorial and Museum in Columbus, Ohio, will conduct its Memorial Day remembrance ceremony on Monday, May 25, at 10 a.m. Eastern on Facebook Live, “with special messages and remarks from Ryan Manion (president of the Travis Manion Foundation) and our president and CEO Lt. Gen. Michael Ferriter, U.S. Army (retired).”
