In nearly five years, more than 3,500 entries added.

Over the last nearly year-and-a-half, photographing, recording and submitting veterans memorials and monuments to The American Legion’s Veterans Memorial Identification Project database has probably not been top of mind for many. But the database remains active on the national website, and new submissions are always welcome.

As of early August, the number of memorials stands just short of 3,650, from 50 states and several foreign countries. The database was released to the public in November 2016, after a resolution by the National Executive Committee. Sites from any war era are welcome. The page is designed to easily upload photos and information via smartphones, even while at the site. This makes it easier to do multiple submissions at one time, as Legion Family and associated community groups comb an area for sites. Entries will be made public after review. Users can search by state to see what has already been submitted before embarking on recording expeditions; the most recently added are listed first.
