America Gives supports 9/11 Day of Service

Legion Family encouraged to add events, projects to national database.

America250 is hoping to make Friday, Sept. 11 – the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks – “the largest day of unity and doing good in American history.”

9/11 Day is an initiative of America Gives, an ongoing part of America250, and is seeking to generate 1 million good deeds by Sept. 11. A national project-registration database has been set up at 911day.org/volunteer to list and promote service opportunities, whether open to the public or private to an organization. The initiative is also seeking volunteers for a service project of its own: packing 18 million meals in more than 50 U.S. cities for families facing hunger.

The spokesman for 9/11 Day is actor/comedian and “Saturday Night Live” alum Pete Davidson; his father, Scott, was a firefighter in New York and died while evacuating workers from the World Trade Center.

American Legion Family members are encouraged to post their community service projects around the anniversary of 9/11 to the database, as they did their USA 250 Challenge activities.
